Experimental Research on the Matching Characteristics of the Compound VGT-STC System with a V-Type Diesel Engine

In order to improve the performance of a V-type diesel engine at low and medium speeds, compound VGT-STC turbocharger system was proposed. First, bench established, which allowed switch between VGT STC boosting systems. Then, load characteristic tests with variable vane opening were conducted different speeds in 1TC 2TC, respectively. The results showed that VGT-1TC could provide much more air into cylinder than VGT-2TC 1000 r/min, maximum torque increased by 4000 Nm (80%), BSFC decreased 20.1 g/kWh on average. matching characteristics are analyzed for three control strategy systems, including VGT, STC, VGT-STC. show has steady increase both while large r/min begins decline when speed is greater 1200 combines advantages can maintain 9000 (83% rated 1800 rpm) lower speeds. As result, system, operating range expanded 10%, its smoke opacity, BSFC, exhaust temperature reduced 0.057, 8.2 g/kWh, 64 °C,
